Classroom Chemistry
Throughout the "Classroom Chemistry" unit our class will learn about the properties of matter. We will have the opportunity to safely experiment with household liquids and solids. We will test a variety of materials to see what happens when things are mixed together: what dissolves, what reacts and what remains unaffected. We will discover that when a solid material dissolves, it can be recovered as a crystal by evaporating the liquid. We will even make our own crystals in science class. Our class will also learn that when two materials react to form a new material, the original materials cannot be recovered. As an example of a chemical reaction, students learn to produce carbon dioxide gas and show that this gas differs from ordinary air. (Alberta Program of Studies). We are eager to begin this exciting unit and will share learning links along the way. Please visit this location throughout the science unit as it will be a great resource to further the learning at home.
