Weather Watch
In this exciting science unit, students will learn about weather phenomena and the methods used for weather study. They learn to measure temperatures, wind speed and direction, the amounts of rain and snow, and the amount of cloud cover. In studying causes and patterns of air movements, students learn about the effects of uneven heating and cooling and discover the same patterns of air movement in indoor environments as are found outdoors. They also learn about human actions that can affect weather and climate and study the design and testing of clothing used to protect against weather. - Alberta Program of Studies

Weather Watch Final QUIZ - Thursday, December 6th
Thursday's Final Weather Watch Quiz includes the following learning outcomes that we have covered in the second half of the weather watch unit. I have attached a review sheet that students will have an opporutnity to complete during class time but are also encouraged to use it as a review tool for their quiz.
I can measure at least four different kinds of weather
phenomena.
- I can identify common types of clouds and how they tell what the weather will be.

phenomena.
- I can identify common types of clouds and how they tell what the weather will be.
- I can understand that climate refers to long-term weather
trends in a particular region and that climate varies throughout the
world. - I can recognize that human actions can effect climate, and
identify human actions that are linked to the greenhouse
effect. - I can
appreciate how important it is to be able to forecast weather and to have
suitable clothing or shelter for all kinds of
weather. - I can
recognize fabrics and clothing designs that would most effectively meet the
challenges of weather conditions like water resistance, wind resistance and
protection from the cold
Weather Watch - Today's Learning Outcome
* Identify some common types of clouds, and relate them to weather patterns.
Today we learned how to identy cloud types. We learned that clouds can help predict the weather. Clouds are named by their shape, their altitude and the precipitation they hold. Your Assignment: On your way home from school or tonight sometime, please go on a cloud walk (Or cloud stand) and check out what is happening in the sky. Be ready to share this with with Mrs. Tennant tomorrow during science class!
